UPDATING YOUR DETAILS
Please remember to let Broadstone know, if you have changed your bank or building society account, or if you move house or change your email address.
You can update your details online if you’re registered with PenNet. If you’re not registered and would like to sign up, please click here and follow the instructions.
If you would prefer to deal directly with Broadstone, please contact the team in writing by email or post and quote either your payroll number or your National Insurance number. Please make it clear that you receive your pension from the National Grid Electricity Group of the ESPS.
Please note that as the payroll is processed in advance of the actual pay date, you should update PenNet or give Broadstone as much notice as possible of any changes so that they can be made in time.
Contact details for Broadstone can be found here.
Power of Attorney
A Power of Attorney (POA) is a document that allows you to legally appoint another trusted person (an ‘attorney’) to make decisions on your behalf if you become unable to do so yourself. There are two types of POA:
Ordinary or General POA – the person nominated can act on your behalf in relation to property or financial affairs while you’re still capable of making your own decisions. It’s often used for a specific period or purpose such as managing finances during a temporary absence. This type of POA is automatically revoked if you lose the mental capacity to manage your own affairs.
Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) – this allows the ‘attorney’ to make decisions on your behalf if you lose mental capacity. There are two types, covering property and financial matters (such as managing bank accounts, paying bills and selling property), and health and welfare. An LPA must be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian before it can take effect.
How to tell Broadstone you have a Power of Attorney
Broadstone will accept an attorney as having authority to act on a member’s behalf, provided they have received a valid POA in one of the following ways:
- An original or certified copy sent to Broadstone by post (the following website explains how to certify a POA: www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney/certify)
- Correspondence which provides an online access code to view the POA online, typically viewable for a limited number of days or weeks. This service is only available for POAs registered after 1 January 2016.
Once Broadstone has verified the POA, any future changes to the member’s record are updated as requested by the attorney. Further external checks are made to verify requests to change bank account details where there is a POA in place.
If you have a POA in place, or you’re an attorney for a member of the Group, please contact Broadstone who will explain the process. For more information, visit the government website: www.gov.uk/power-of-attorney
